Kerala is known for rich content of medicinal plants.  People of Kerala traditionally seek Ayurveda and its component of Herbal medicine for their well being.  Mahe though a part of Kerala belongs to Puducherry.  Because of these demands for Ayurvedic medicine, Government of Puducherry intends to start a Ayurvedic college for Ayurvedic Physicians attached to a 100 bedded hospital at Mahe.

Ayurveda gives equal importance to body, mind and soul offering holistic treatments based on bodily constraint, mental make up, diet pattern and work schedule.

Ayurveda means “science of life”.  It is a holistic, traditional Indian system of medicine.  Ayurveda is not just a science; it’s a way of life, which has been developed by the sages’ yoga. It treats diseases by encouraging the e’lan vital to restore the balance of functional forces.

The principal objective of Ayurveda is maintenance and promotion of health, prevention of diseases and cure of sickness.  Treatment of the diseases consists in avoiding causative factors responsible for disequilibria of the body matrix or of any of its constituent parts through the use of Panchakarama procedures, medicines, suitable diet, activity and regimen for restoring the balance and strengthening the body mechanism to prevent or minimize future occurrence of the disease.

For successful administration of a treatment four things are essential.  These are the physician, the medicaments, the nursing personnel and the patient.
